Fettuccini and Shrimp Alfredo

Image
I haven't gone to a restaurant for 7 days now because I don't want to take a chance when a restaurant cook or waiter may be sneezing or coughing while serving my food.  I love eating out and I used to eat out almost everyday before this coronavirus scare.  I'm  however getting tired of having the same chicken soup for both lunch and dinner for the last 7 days.  I need to cook something different but easy since I'm not really a skilled cook.  This pasta dish looks  delicious and simple enough for me to make.

Classic French Toast

Image
There are so many videos on Youtube teaching me how to make French toast and yet many of them are either plain annoyng or over-complicated. After watching many French toasts videos, I finally found this video that seems to be more practical for the small kitchen and a busy caregiver.

How to Cook a Steak in the Oven

Image
I cooked my steak following the instruction on the video below.  It worked!  I don't have access to a frying pan because I have yet to buy one. I also don't want to bother cleaning my very dirty charcoal grill so I am very happy to have found the following video to learn how to cook a steak in my toaster oven.  I don't have any steak seasoning in my pantry so I used 1/2 teaspoon of salt, 1/2 teaspoon of garlic powder, and 1/4 teaspoon of ground black pepper instead to season my steak after coating the meat with olive oil.  I found the steak paired very well with the Greek Salad that I bought from Trader Joe's.  This is my most favorite store bought Greek Salad  (compared to the other salads that I had tried at other grocery stores like Albertsons, Vons, Ralphs), it tasted pretty fresh even though I opened the box too many days after I bought it and it literally passed the "best use by" date on the box.  The steak itself cost $7.99 and the salad adde...

How To Store Green Onions

Image
I love to sprinkle some finely chopped green onions into my chicken soup whenever I heat up a bowl  in the microwave.  But I often ended up throwing a lot of wilted green onions because I only used a stalk here and there.  Today, I'm keeping my green onions in the plastic container that I got when I bought the Jambalaya from the supermarket deli. I added water to the level where  the white part of the green onions were all submerged and I used the same plastic bag from the grocery store that I used to hold my green onions to cover the plastic container before I put it back into the fridge.  I will see how long this method will keep the green oninons fresh. It does take up space in the fridge though....I learnt about this storage method during my wait at the doctor's office.  One of the old ladies who sat across me in the waiting room told me about this when we were chatting about how we often wasted so much money by cooking at home because we had to t...

Homemade Chicken Soup

Image
This is my first time making homemade chicken soup.  I normally bought chicken soup from Chicken Maison or the grocery stores.  But now I don't think I can go back to those takeout soups anymore.  The homemade chicken soup just tastes so much better with a really delicious and fresh taste, without the MSG used by the restaurant and the ton loads of salt used by the grocery stores.  I learnt how to make this delicious homemade chicken soup by watching the Youtube video below. I bought my organic whole chicken and the organic veggies from Trader Joe's. I pulled out the skin from the chicken to reduce the fat content in the soup, except for the wings which were too difficult for me to pull the skin off.  I also added 2 bay leaves and a few sprigs of fresh thyme even though the video doesn't call for them. The chicken alone costs US$17.00.  The veggies and herbs probably add  a few more dollars to the soup.  But it's worth it because the chicke...
